Recently Packt Publishing released the book MODx Web Development. As an avid MODx user and a developer for the project, I was given the opportunity to review the book (For full disclosure I am receiving a free copy). I have not received my copy yet so I do not have a full review, but have reviewed one chapter and thought I would post my thoughts on it here.

Yesterday the announcement was made that MODx Revolution 2.0 beta 1 was available for download. I have tried out SVN builds along the way but this is getting close to final now. For those that don't know, this is a complete re-write of the MODx codebase. This is really exciting times for MODx and a great time to get more involved.

So now it needs tested and bug-reports filed. Here is the link to the download: MODx Download

I was reading the MODx forums and came across an idea/request for the ability to auto post to Twitter when you publish a new document. Having spent some time going over Twitters api I knew this would be a pretty easy task, so I wrote a quick plugin to make it work.

Another day another Wayfinder beta release. I am hoping to get this one finalized asap, so any feedback from testing would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to the changes made in the previous beta, I have made the following additions:

• Fixed TV inherit issue & added tv placeholder usage to wrapper templates - modx link
• Added debug console ala Ditto
• Added ability to show secure docs even if user not logged in &ignoreSecurity - modx link
• Added level placeholder [+wf.level+]
• Added iterator placeholder [+wf.iterator+]

I have been going through my list of things to add to Wayfinder and decided to release an early beta for testing. There are still some things I need to work out and more I would like to add before an initial release, but this should be good for testing.

So here is a list of things I have changed so far:

• &hereClass assigned to weblink if an internal link - modx link
• &lastClass is assigned correctly when only one menu item - Julian Warren
• odd & even classes - modx link
• MySql 5.0.51 sorting bug fix (should work fine with multi doc groups due to distinct) - modx link
• new templates firstRowTpl, lastRowTpl - modx link
• Add alias placeholder- Kristian Rasmussen
• PHx support - its finally here, this needs major testing. The wrapper placholders cannot use Phx due to errors I was having with the nesting. All other tags should work.
