Today I have re-launched my site using the new MODx Revolution. There were a few bumps along the road but overall I am really impressed with the work that has gone into this release.
Along with the upgrade I had to make a few changes to the site to get everything working. I also took this as an opportunity to clean house and really get rid of some junk that had been cluttering up my previous site. Listed below are the changes that I made in case you are looking for something that might no longer be around.
- All old comments were removed. MODx Revolution uses a new commenting system called Quip. From what I could find there is no quick upgrade path from the Jot snippet. I also had a lot of spam in my comments so I just decided to remove them all and start fresh.
- I am no longer hosting any of the downloads for MODx extras on my site. you can still find the latest releases in the MODx repository which is where they belong. This will make sure you get the latest version when I am to lazy to update my site or someone else takes control of a project (i.e. AjaxSearch).
- I have not upgraded all of the old snippets I wrote to work in MODx Revolution yet. So some of the examples that I used to have on this site no longer actually work. I left the example pages in place with the setup instructions for reference though.
- Flickr is not playing nice with the Revolution snippet getFeed, so if you like my pictures they are gone for the time-being. I hope to find a fix for this in the near future by either fixing getFeed or integrating the full Flickr api instead of using just RSS.
- Not sure whats going on with my Twitter feed also... I know I have tweeted sooner that 40 years ago.
- I wrote a quick snippet to add Facebook, Twitter, and Buzz sharing buttons to a page. I will try to get this into the repository soon but it needs a little polish.
So I think that is the major things. I hope to be spending a lot more time using MODx Revolution in the near future and have a few project ideas going forward.
